If you want to take up the game of darts and you want to learn how to play it and train how to play it, you can do no better than going to one of the academies which are growing up all over the country at this moment. Darts academies that, back where youngsters in an area, can all get together on specific nights of the week and train, watch films and play the game as much as they can to learn. One of the best ways, if you can't make it to an academy, is to go to a bar, a club where they play darts to a reasonably good level and just go and watch the boys playing and, if you can, get on the chalks.

As I said in another film, the best way of learning to play this game is to do the chalks. Forget the electronic marker, use a piece of chalk on the chalkboard. You will learn the finishing combinations, outshots and scoring technique much quicker by doing the chalks.

If you can't get to one of these UK academies, one of the best ways of learning how to play the game, if not the best way, is to go to a local club or your pub and watch the boys play darts. And if you can, get a hold of the chalks and do the scoring for them. That's the quickest way of learning the outshots, the combination shots that you'll need if you're going to be a successful dart player.

Now, I mentioned that the training is restricted, academy-wise, to Great Britain at this moment. When it comes to adult darts coaching, then I've coached in Australia, Canada and America. It doesn't happen so much in this country, but watch this space.

I think something's going to be happening in the not-too-far distant future, which might help a lot of people, and I hope it does. A world famous golfer, Gary Player, was asked by a supporter, "How come you win so much?", and he said, "The more I practice, the luckier I get." And that holds true in darts as well.

Just ask Phil. And that's how to get darts training. .
