Today I'm going to be taking you through a series of videos that include hair care tips, styling product knowledge, and how to use certain hair equipment. On this video I'm going to be showing you looks seen on people like Mary Kate Olsen. This is all you're going to be needing today, so it's your flat iron.

Obviously I have sectioned a small section of hair just to kind of show you the kind of look you need to be working towards. I'll be using some heat protection spray as well. This will give you hold and also protect the hair from the heat because obviously you're going to be working quite a lot with the heat and it tends to get quite hot.

The reason I'm going to be using a flat iron as opposed to a curling tong is because my models hair does tend to drop very easily and if you are unsure and it's a bit of a hard technique for you then I suggest you do try it with this purely because the hold is better. So obviously take your section of hair that you're going to be working with, spray just quite a fine mist from root to tip all the way through. Just run your fingers through just to make sure there's no knots and no tangles as you go through.

I'm going to be using quite big sections of hair just to get a slightly looser curl. So I'm going to be placing the flat iron in at the root, just slightly further down the root than you would do normally, for you to get a looser affect. You can see I've turned it halfway, I'm just pulling the iron gently through to the end.

So keep hold of the hair quite tightly because if the hair falls out you won't get a very good curl. There you go you've got one sort of loose wave there. Again, same sort of principal but instead of going this way I'm going the other way just to kind of get a more natural, softer texture through the hair.

So the iron is turning towards your face. So go through and just pull out slowly. The slower that you go through with the hair the tighter the curl is going to be but obviously since you're working with big sections it's never going to be a big curl.

So just keep working right through to the end until you run out of hair. I just literally use my hands at the end to just to kind of hold it in it's curl because as you're working through obviously you're going to be working in a lot of sections so you don't want it to start dropping before you finish the rest of the hair. When it comes to the front a lot of people are never sure what they want to do.

A personal preference with this kind of look is to work away from the face. So if you place your iron in you work away. If you're not sure just kind of practice before you put hair into the section.

I'm going to go this way purely because it's easy for me handle. So place in that way, turn there, and you won't need to keep the hair in the iron very long you'll find because obviously the hair is a lot shorter. Obviously you've got quite a big curl.

To finish off I'm just going to use a shine spray. That is how you create hair like Mary Kate Olsen.
