How To Get On The Guest List
Here is the Videojug inside guide on how to get on the guest list for your favourite gigs. Watch this and you'll find out how to get into gigs without paying or queuing ever again, by getting on that guest list.
Step 1: Work your Way In
One way of getting on the guest list is to get a job at the venue. You'll have a good chance of going to gigs on your nights off or after your shift. You might even end up getting PAID to see your favourite band.
Or if you can't work at the venue, try the promoter. Promoters often hire people to work on their behalf at venues. Jobs like market surveys or leafleting are a good way of getting into the gig and getting some beer money for a few hours work.
Step 2: Make Yourself Useful
Get to the gig early, hang out at the venue, and befriend everybody- managers, roadies etc. Carry bits of kit, and become part of the busy atmosphere before the gig starts. Remember to act confidently, as if you are meant to be there, after all, the band probably don't know the people who work at the venue, and the venue won't know who's with the band. With any luck, you'll find yourself inside in no time.
Step 3: Be a rock-journo
Start a local fanzine, and if you haven't had the foresight to do this years ago, decide that your first issue is going to be a review of this gig. Think up a name, and then call up beforehand to get yourself on the list. Even if Eventually you'll make the contacts and you'll be on the guest list for everything.
Step 4: Blag it
Find out who the PR Company are and give them a call to ask if they've got any spare guest lists. If you don't ask, you don't get. If you are up for bare-faced lying, pretend you are an A&R man scouting for new talent. If you can keep a straight face saying that you deserve to get in for free.
