How To Get Online On A Playstation 3 With A Wired Connection
If you want to take your Playstation 3 online, play games against people over The Internet and take advantage of the Playstation Network, you'll need to get your PS3 online. This video shows you how to do it with a wired connection.
Step 1: Set Up the Internet
You'll need a router, first and foremost. All connected up to the Internet. If you have a wireless-capable router, you could watch videojug's film about getting your PS3 online wirelessly, and have one less cable to trip over.
Step 2: Set up the Connection
Plug an Ethernet cable into the back of the PS3, and the other end into the back of your router – NOT the PC.
Turn on your router, and let it get up and running enough to connect to The Internet. On the PS3, head to Settings -> Network Settings-> Internet Connection Settings and Easy
From there, select Wired.
Everything should all be entered automatically for you, so you don't need to do a thing. Just scroll through, and test the connection to make sure it works.
Boot up the Internet Browser to check the connection.
And there you have it. You can now sit back, relax, and watch VideoJug films without having to move from the sofa.
Step 3: If It doesn't Work
If you're having problems, select the ‘Custom' option instead of Easy and fill in details accordingly. You can enter a Static IP address (like 192.168.1.100), instead of having on generated for you on the fly. Likewise, will in as many details manually as you can, instead of leaving them set to Automatic. In most cases, that'll clear things up.
