The other point is that if the bruise is on an extremity where you can lift it above the level of the heart, that will also help because it's going to stop so much blood from rushing to the area and leaking out and causing the bruise.

Step two. There are some more natural remedies that have some limited evidence to reduce bruises. Some of these are things like arnica.

Other things to try might be vitamin C. Even things like bilberry extract have been said to have beneficial effects on the collagen. However, bear in mind that none of these are going to make your bruises magically disappear; it is going to be a matter of watch and wait.

Step three, when to see your doctor. It's really important to mention that if you've actually got a bruise without having had an injury, it's worth seeing your doctor. That's because spontaneous bruising can be a sign that the bone marrow isn't working quite as it should be.

At that point, your doctor will probably want to do a blood test. The other time to see a doctor is if you're on a number of medications. Drugs like warfarin, aspirin, quinine, prednisolone, could all cause bruising, and there are many others like this.
