In this clear and concise video tutorial, a medical doctor explains what to do and what to avoid doing, when dealing with acne.
So, today, we've got some tips on how you can get rid of a zit. We've all been there. It's a really important meeting; we're going on our first date; we wake up that morning and we've got a huge zit right on the tip of our nose.
It's a really, really common problem. So, how do we get a zit? Well, all across our skin, we've got millions and millions of sebaceous glands, which secrete a fluid called sebum, which is basically there to keep our skin healthy. Now, sometimes when these glands get blocked with dead skin cells or blocked up with sebum, then we can get a little blackhead or whitehead, and if bacteria infect the blocked pore, then that's when we get some pus formation, and we get a pustule, or a zit.
And zits don't just happen on our face. They're really common on our neck, on our chest, on the tops of our arms and shoulders, and all across parts of our bodies. So, how can we treat a zit? Well, even though it's really, really tempting, the first thing is, don't pick or pop the zit.
That will just make things worse. It'll make it more obvious, and it also causes risk of infection. So the first thing to do is make sure you wash your hands.
Apply some warm water and medicated soap to a flannel, and gently dab around the zit itself, and onto where the zit is. After that, there are lots of zit creams and pimple creams you can use. I'd recommend ones that have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Both of these ingredients will help to kill the bacteria around the zit, unblock the pore, and also reduce any inflammation that's around the area. Right. After the ointment has dried on the zit, you can use a medicated concealer to try and cover it over.
It's important to remember it will probably take a good twenty-four hours until the zit has gone completely, but hopefully it should be that your skin is looking blemish free after that. If you've got lots of zits or lots of pustules around the skin, it's really important to see your doctor for further advice. They can advise if you've got problems with acne, and also look at other, stronger treatments that you might need to use on the skin.
For example, retinoid creams, or some antibiotic treatments which can help with underlying infectious causes. So, those are some tips on how to get rid of a zit. .
