Anxiety is something we all experience at different stages in our lives for different reasons, different levels. But, you know what? It's something we don't have to live with. It's not a part of us.

As you'll see, anxiety is a visitor, therefore, as easily it can come, it can go. The Buddhists would say, “I'm not anxious but I am with anxiety,” meaning it's almost like an unwanted guest. It can go like that.

It's not an intricate part of it. That's the most important thing to remember. It is temporary as well.

One of the key things you can do is actually look at why you're anxious. Look at why you're really anxious. Be really honest with yourself.

And sometimes, when you really examine it, you'll find that you don't have any reason. It's an unnecessary fear but we all have fear about many things, whether it's speaking in public, asking somebody out, going for a job interview, or bungee jumping, whatever it might be, but you know what? Millions, in fact, billions of people have had these issues before, will always have them and continue to have them, just like you will on occasions. They deal with it.

They still do things that challenge them, frighten them, scare them, that made them feel anxious but they overcome these barriers. So, one good way of doing it is actually overcome your fears by having a go at the thing that makes you anxious, so you minimize it. Another technique is a neuro-linguistic programming technique.

You look at something that concerns you or makes you afraid, makes you anxious; you play it on a movie screen, not in color but in black and white, and you'll watch this movie screen in your mind and slowly, the movie screen, cinema screen gets smaller, sound reduces, the picture gets smaller and it gets smaller and smaller and smaller until it just disappears into the far distance, not to be seen again. And keep on applying tactics like that and techniques like that so it programs your subconscious mind. So, when you come upon a situation that makes you anxious, it doesn't feel so overwhelming anymore.

Talk to people who can be supportive and proactive and inspiring. Read inspiring books. Watch inspiring films and read about those people in real life or even in fiction, who have overcome adversity and anxiety.
