Hello. I am Charles Goldman, a qualified chiropodist/podiatrist. I run The Foot Pad chiropody and physical therapy clinic in Holborn, Central London.
Today, I am going to talk to you about various foot problems and their treatment. In this video, we are going to discuss the treatment for athlete's foot. First we have to define what is athlete's foot.
Athlete's foot is a fungal infection and it generally starts between the little and the next toe of the foot. Athletes foot like most fungal infections need dark damp conditions to survive. If you have done your feet thoroughly after shower, bath, or swim, this won't develop.
If you put your damp foot into shoes, then it has a wonderful environment in which to grow. The way to treat it is to use common products we buy over-the-counter like Canesten, all these are getting root of athletes foot, what you have to remember though is you have to use these products until all the symptoms have gone and then continue to use the products for another 10 days to two weeks, otherwise you re-infect yourself and you want to avoid that. Every time you put your infected shoes back on, you are reintroducing the fungal spores on your feet.
If this does not work, you can seek help form professional like myself and you can use other methods including bio-gun which kills fungus directly, laser and other modalities. Athlete's foot can spread down the foot as well and you can get pitting right down to the heels and some would notice it on the foot commonly and it is the best to treat it because it can lead to other infections once the skin starts splitting. You know, when you have athletes foot, it gets flaky skin between the toes, itching, and sometimes bleeding and treat it as soon as possible with preparatory product even though from the pharmacy.
That is the way we recommend to treat athletes foot. .
