Now, it's very important that if you treat acne yourself and look after to it yourself, do not use any harsh soaps and washes. It comes sometimes with an instinctive that you ought to use something which is a bit harsher but it doesn't work because all you achieve is, actually, dry out the top part of your skin, the epidermis and that causes more follicular plugging. And what that means is the hair follicles which are very often associated with acne, because they can affect it by bacteria and you have the sebum fat production under the follicles, if you dry out superficially the area, your skin tries actually to protect itself and it will actually produce more fat than it should.

So it's a bit of a negative feedback of fact and in fact, it's not a good idea. So as to wash, use something very simple, ideally a wash which is creamy wash and you can get number of ranges in every pharmacy, in every shop. There are some good ranges such as epiderm, they are big tubs of a pound and you just basically just use the acid wash or creamy wash and shower them off with warm water.

Now, if you have really bad acne, it's quite important to use an antiseptic spray. I prefer those which are a bit more natural and use yarrow spray toner which I have here. Now, they come in little bottles.

Yarrow is a herb which is antiseptic. All you do is literally just give yourself a few sprays onto the back. If you can't reach the area which is acne, try your partner, friend or anyone to have a cure with that.

Now, it's very important to treat the spots directly as well. Now, you can do that with various preparations. One is BPO or benzoyl peroxide.

Now, benzoyl peroxide, you can buy them over the counter. They come in various strength from one to three, five and ten percent. Now, the higher the number, the stronger the strength.

What they do actually is they release the free radical, oxygen, into your skin, into your follicle and actually kill off the bacterial infection. So, what you would do is if that is a BPO, you just open it gently, use a cotton bud to actually extract the cream from the jar. Apply it with the cotton very, very gently on the area.

Now, BPO can actually inflame the skin if it's overused, so make very sure that you use only a tiny, tiny amount. If you get wetness around the area or excess dryness, then try and stop it just for a day and then start re-applying at the next day. Now, I personally prefer Willow bark extract which I recommend my own clinic.

It doesn't actually cause the same sort of side effects or sourness which can be applied exactly in the same way. It's very important that you also moisturize the area where you actually use the topical product because you don't want surrounding skin to dry-out. Now, it's very, very important that you actually use a water based cream.

Don't use any fatty products, that's very important because the fatter the product, the more your skin will break out. So, go to your pharmacist, go to any shop and just ask for a mild water-based cream which is very, very important to moisturize the area then. .
