Everyone wants their skin to look and feel at it's best. In this video our skin expert talks you through a wide range of treatments which are available to minimise and eliminate chest acne and gives advice on some simple lifestyle changes which may be important to improve the overall texture and appearance of your skin.
Acne is a chronic condition so it may actually take some time to get rid of your chest acne, you have to be prepared to be quite patient. You can use various products to do so, you can go to a GP or Dermatologist for advice. The common products on the market are a wide range of antibiotics; however these should only be used as a short term treatment and never seen as a long term option. The other option you could discuss with your GP is Retinoids, these are vitamin A derivatives which can be used internally or external creams and in both cases you will need to have those prescribed. An internal retinoid vitamin a derivative is for example something like Accutane, you need to be supervised by a GP to take the tablets because your liver function needs to be monitored and they can have a very drying effect on the skin. Now another option is perhaps Benzoyl Peroxide, Benzoyl Peroxide is available in various strengths, ten percent being the highest strength. Never start with the highest strength, that is not a good idea, always start with the weakest and increase the dosage if necessary. Azelaic Acid is another option you could use. It’s similar to BPO, both BPO and Azelaic acid release the free radical oxygen into your skin and deal with the bacterial infection. So it’s very important that you wash both your face and your hands thoroughly before touching the acne spots. The washes should not be very strong or harsh washes, they should be creamy washes and water based washes because you need to keep your skin nice and strong and healthy. The other thing you could do would be to use a natural option and that for example would perhaps a willow bark cream or a tea tree extract or Benzoin extract. You can get those from a natural health clinic, you apply tiny amounts onto your spots after washing your skin and be sure to moisturise afterwards with a water based moisturiser. What helps as well is always a healthy diet, meaning low in fat and low in sugar. So avoid too many chocolates, biscuits, cakes and cookies. They are high in fat and our bodies can’t store sugar so it makes it into fat. Because acne is a condition where excess fat production is involved in the condition, the more fat you eat, the more you exacerbate the problem. So have a low fat diet, stick to wide cuts of meat such as chicken and turkey and veal for example or in terms of fish you can have sea-bream, bass, haddock and cod, any white fish really. Vegetables and fruits are absolutely fine. Now you have some other options you could use and these are certain supplements such as zinc for example, selenium, they’re both very important for the skin. Vitamin b5 and b6 are a very good option as well.
