With fleas, one of the best methods for control nowadays, there's something called "Front Line" and similar products that are available from supermarkets, that you put a little drop of on the back of the cat or the dog's neck, where it can't lick it off. That gets into the blood stream, and that will get rid of the flea infestation very quickly. It needs to be reapplied every six months or so.

However, if the fleas have been picked up by your animals, and there may be fox fleas, or other fleas from your garden, hedgehog fleas, each flea feeds on its own host animal, although it will cause distress to others, which is why the cat flea will cause distress to humans when it bites us, but it can't live and breed. It must have its host animal around, such as the cat. In that case, then the use of insecticides is needed.

You can buy tins of aerosol insecticide from supermarkets, garden centers. In cases of a bad infestation, you will need the use of a professional pest control company such as Clean Kill to take care of the problem. Generally, hygiene, such as hoovering around the edges of settees, where the cats and dogs are sitting, will help start to remove the eggs and the larvae that may be there.

And again, it comes down to general hygiene, which is the case with so many pest control operations. General cleanliness. Make sure that all of these areas are taken good care of when you're hoovering: underneath settees, down the cracks and crevices.
