Hello, my name is Graham Selleck and I'm the proprietor of Sabre Environmental Property Services. We are pest controllers, based in Watford, Hertfordshire. We're there for all your pest control needs.

Recent publicity has highlighted the problem of the urban fox. With the attack of the two twins in East London, people are beginning to look at foxes in a different way. Because it isn't a cuddly creature, everyone has their own opinion.

But there are occasions when foxes do need to be controlled. There are two main methods that we employ. The cage trap.

This one is actually designed for cubs. The cub enters through the side here, it's attracted by a bait which is played at the rear end, and treads on this trail, which cause the trap to fire. We then have a caught fox.

What do we do with it then? Some people advocates take it out in the country and release it. I wonder, is that the kindest way? We're releasing an animal in surroundings where it has no knowledge, releasing it into an area where there will be other foxes, who will resent an intruder. Maybe the kindest thing is to euthanize the animal and remove it.

Foxes carry certain diseases. They can transmit them to humans, in the form of their droppings. They can transmit them to our pets, such as sarcoptic mange.

This is a horrible disease, which, left to run unchecked, will result in a completely bald fox, as it loses all its hair and the fox will die in the wintertime, through exposure. It's circumstances like this and if the site allows, we do a detailed risk survey, we notify the local police and then we remove the fox by shooting. This is a high powered rifle, it's fitted with a telescopic sight, it has bold action and it's also fitted with a sound suppressor.

If you use these at night, in someone's garden, they'll be inside, maybe watching Eastenders and they won't even hear the shot. The fox is taken out quickly and humanly. Many people may hate me for saying this, but a rifle is a very good tool to maintain public health and conservation.

Those are the two methods we use in urban areas to remove foxes.
