I'm now going to talk to you about hemorrhoids, or more commonly known as piles. Piles are incredibly common, and four of the most common causes of piles include constipation, pregnancy, getting older, or being hereditary prone to them. Constipation results in people putting more pressure around the veins in the base of the anus, and these bulge out and cause piles.

Pregnancy is also a big risk factor for piles, both during the pregnancy, with the weight of the fetus within you, upon pushing and giving birth, piles are incredibly common in pregnancy. As we get older, the structures around the anus and the muscles get weaker, so piles are more common, but like I said, there are some people who have the genetic predisposition to piles. Now, how you treat piles depends on how severe they are, and they are graded as one, two, three and four.

Grade one piles can't be felt or seen, and are usually picked up by bleeding on the toilet paper, or into the toilet bowl, a bright red fresh blood. Grade two piles are piles that pop out or when passing a stool, pop back in when the stool is passed. They also can cause bleeding.

Grade three piles are the piles that pop out when you're passing a stool, and actually have to be pushed back in with a finger to be reduced. Once again, these can cause bleeding. And then there's grade four piles, and grade four piles hang out permanently and cause regular bleeding.

Most grade one and grade two piles can be dealt with you, at home. All you've got to do is make sure you reduce your constipation, eat plenty of fiber, drink plenty of fluids. You can buy some over-the-counter ointments and creams which your chemist can advise you on, for the irritation of piles.

Unfortunately, grade three and grade four piles will probably require you to see a specialist, and the specialist will examine your piles, and may put a small elastic band at the base of the pile to make them fall off in a couple of weeks. There are other treatments available, and sometimes, people have to have a full-blown surgery to remove them. And if you do have unexpected bleeding from the back passage, with any medical symptoms you're not sure of, it's always best to consult your doctor.

And that's how you deal with hemorrhoids.
