How To Get Rid Of Scabies

Simple and easy to use medical treatments combined with perseverance can give you the peace of mind you are seeking to get rid of these pesky little bugs and your scabies.

So, we are going to think about how to get rid of scabies. Scabies is a skin infection which is caused by a tiny mite, which is a very, very small insect which can burrow into the skin and cause inflammation and irritation, and then we get symptoms of a red rash on our skin. We may see little burrow holes, particularly in the finger webs, and we'll get a lot of irritation and dryness of the skin and it will be intensely itchy, and those are the very common symptoms of scabies.

Scabies is caused by skin to skin contact, but also the mite can live on sheets and towels and other things that we share that we pass between our skins, so it's a highly infectious infestation that can be quite difficult to treat initially. People often have scabies for about two to three weeks before they start to develop any symptoms, so it's quite easy to pass it on to other people before you realize that you've got scabies yourself. The good news is there are some really simple treatments which can clear the scabies completely, as long as they're applied properly.

The most common treatments can be found over the counter or can be prescribed by your doctor and they are Permethrin and Malathion, and it's important to get a preparation which doesn't have any alcohol, because alcohol can irritate the skin and make things more uncomfortable for you. When you get the lotions, it's important to treat the whole of the body, and certainly everywhere from the neck down, but it might be wise to try and treat across the scalp and face as well, without going into the eyes. You apply the treatment from twelve to twenty-four hours and then wash off the next day and then it's important to reapply the treatment a week later to make sure its scabies mites have been completely cleared.

Also, as part of the treatment, it's really important that any contacts that live in your household or anyone else that shares your linen or your towels are treated as well, and it's important that the towels and linen themselves are treated by machine washing at very high temperatures, more than 50 degrees Celsius. One final thing to note that even after you've been treated, the itch can persist for a couple of weeks and that's because it's an allergic reaction in the skin from the mites burrowing into our skin, and that can be quite uncomfortable, even when you've been completely treated, so it's important to go to your pharmacist or doctor and ask for some antihistamines which will relieve the itching and soothe the discomfort. So that's some advice on how to get rid of scabies.
