Today, I'm going to talk about how to get rid of water retention. Step one: Know what causes it. Water retention is actually very common and there can be a number of things that cause it.

Things like high salt intake and swallowing too much air can be some causes. Other aspects are hormonal changes. Step two: One of the first things to try is reducing the amount of salt in your diet.

Simply going down from the average of nine grams to six grams can be really helpful. And what you should be doing to do that is avoiding things like salty nuts or crisps, avoiding processed foods and avoiding adding too much salt to your own food. Eating a healthy diet that's full of fresh fruits and vegetables which contains a lot more potassium is also a really great way to avoid too much water retention.

Step three: Vitamins B5 and B6 are thought to be really helpful in reducing mild retention. These, you can find in things like lean meats. In addition, you can try some supplements such as evening primrose oil, dandelion leaf, but it is always important to discuss these with your doctor as if you are on prescribed medicines, they can all interact.

Step four: When to see your doctor. If you are unsure about the cause, then it is absolutely critical to go and see your doctor as there are many conditions that could be responsible for water retention. Even if no underlying cause is found, your doctor may still be able to tell because in severe cases, they can prescribe diuretics which can actually get some of the water out.
