Once payment has been made the bartender will return to the punter to give them their change, at which point you're in place to get his/her attention. Also, if the bar leads away from the entrance, most people will go straight to the bar at the closest point. They mised my own personal technique, the shoulder tap. I was once waiting at the bar and knew this bloke would be sevred before me as he'd been waiting there longer. So...when the bartender was about to approach us, I quickly tapped the guy on the shoulder, he turned around and the bartender went straight for me! Harsh but fair, this can only be done in a crowded bar or he/she will know who has tapped them.
