In this video I'm going to talk to you about how to get Shakira's abs. Now, what's special about Shakira isn't necessarily what her abs looks like, it's what she can do. She's a fantastic dancer.

She incorporates different types of dancing in her routines, and that's one of the reasons why her abs looks so good. She does salsa, which is from Cuba, Samba from Brazil, and also belly dancing from Egypt. Now, as a dancer, she does a lot of dancing specific exercises.

I'm going to show you one in a second from Pilates. Now, Pilates is originally to help ballet dancers. Now, it's pretty mainstream and everyone does it.

It's really good for your core to give you nice definition on the sides. I'm going to show you a side plank with a bit of a difference. This is a side plank.

I'm pushing up; my head is back hopefully in a nice straight line. It's quite a standard Pilates move. For a lot of people, it's quite tough.

But to really get those Shakira style abs, you have to push it harder, so I'm going to lift my leg up and lift my arm up. This is really hard. Hold for as long as you can and then relax.

Ideally, you're looking for two minutes at a time when you're doing these core functional style exercises. Another good exercise is the Russian twist. Now, the Russian twist is not working your abs so much, it's working your obliques.

For a woman, the obliques are much more important. This is what gives you lines here. You don't necessarily want a big six pack, you want more of a dancers body.

So we're rotating side to side. Good for my lower back. It's really good for my obliques.

If you want to make it harder, just hold a weight or lift my hands up higher, twisting side to side. Go for about 20 or 30 at a time. It should be hurting, like burning, then, you know you're doing it well.

Shakira, she does these abdominal exercises, but also you need to do standard resistance training and eat well, cardio training, all together. That's how you get a body and abs like Shakira.
