How to get a supply teaching job? The first thing that you need to be able to be a supply teacher is a qualification. You need QTS or qualified teacher status and that will allow you to teach in state schools. If you are looking to do supply teaching with perhaps an overseas qualification, you will be allowed to do that as long as you're qualification is equivalent to QTS.
If you're unsure of that, UK Naric provides a facility where you can translate your qualification giving it relevance. The most common way to get supply teaching jobs in the UK is either via a supply teaching agency like Career Teachers or a local authority and usually, larger cities actually use agencies rather than local authorities. Once you've registered with them and you'll need to undergo their registration procedures and also criminal police check, then once your cleared, they will then start to look for work for you.
Supply teaching can be anything from one day placement up to a term or maybe even a year depending on what the school wants and the school will give their requirements to the agency or local authority who will match you to that position. When they give you a booking, they'll obviously call you and then either send you confirmation by text or email. They'll give you as much information as they possibly can about school including their address and any other particular details that you need to know.
Once you've got that information, it's your job to organize your journey and get to school on time and obviously do the best that you can with your teaching. At the end of the day, always make sure that you call back the school because they may need a teacher to cover for the next day or for the week and you can organize this with the school at the end of the day and then report back to your agent or your local authority. And that's how to get a supply teaching job. .
