How To Get Your Baby To Sleep Through The Night
Babies get disturbed during the night if they have teething problem, if they are wet or if they are hungry. So we have to make our baby feel really comfortable when they go to sleep in the night.
Hi. I'm Laura Campbell from Babyladies and I'm going to be giving you some tips on how to look after your newborn and how to achieve the birth that you want. How to get a baby to sleep through the night? Thereafter about eight weeks, you've got more chance of actually getting a longer period a time when your baby's asleep.
And what you can do in order to help this happen is during the day, keep things quite normal, continue to hover, continue to make noise. If your baby is down for a nap, don't need blackout blinds, just have everything as if it's day so that baby can differentiate between the day and night. And at night time, set up a really good routine, so having a little bath, maybe doing a little bit of baby massage, having a story, having a little cuddle, have a feed and then putting baby to bed making sure that the room's very dark and everything's subdued and quiet and relaxed.
Far more likely to be able to get your baby to differentiate between the night and the day and to sleep little bit longer. We're not talking eight hours stage necessarily but we're talking about a longer period of sleep and maybe one or two feeds during the night. Other things that you can do and other things that may interrupt the sleep are teething.
When teething starts, it generally is for three days and you've had this fantastic routine you'd thought you got this angelic baby that sleeps through the night. However, there are lots of things you can do to help with teething. There are teething necklaces you can get which are amber.
They're not something that a baby chews on. That's something that's very therapeutic and healing and it's even amber and it just goes around the neck, very very calming. The other thing that you can do is get some powders.
These are called Aston Powders. You can get them in Boots, you can get them anywhere and they're basically homeopathic. They've got absolutely nothing in there that can harm the baby, and they just soothe the baby and they're really really lovely and they're pure and natural.
Other things you can do in the room, make sure it's the right temperature. You can get a thermometer to make sure and just check the baby is not too hot or too cold in their cot. In their cot, don't have too much froth and toys.
You don't want toys in there. The bed's to sleep so try not to have, well they look beautiful, try not to have bumpers and things. Try not to have too many things that are going to entertain baby.
Maybe a mobile or something that plays a nice lullaby, puts a nice light on, not too much going on in there. You want the bedroom to be purely for sleeping and not for playing. Other things that really help baby to sleep are baby massage and doing things with baby during the day, taking baby swimming.
You could do special swimming lessons, so taking baby out for a walk and just getting out there with baby, having lots and lots of fresh air, it's good for mom, it's good for baby, it's good for carer and just making sure your days are really really fun. .
