How To Get Your Invention Made

Your new invention could make a lot of people's lives easier… and make you rich. But first, you'll have to get it out there. Here's how to get your invention made.

Step 1: You will need

  • A production-quality prototype
  • A CAD/CAM drawing of your product

Step 2: Do-It-Yourself?

Once you've created your new invention, you can make it yourself or have someone else make it for you. You can license your product to a manufacturer who will in turn give you a share of the profits. Or you can sell your product to industry, and leave the production to them.

Step 3: Production

If you choose to make the product yourself, you'll need to find a manufacturer. These days, it's harder to find a great local manufacturer. You might be better off contacting your country's embassy in China. You'll need to find out the manufacturer's Minimum Order Quantity. Many manufacturers' MOQ can be between 50,000-100,000 units.

Step 4: Materials

Materials make a huge difference in cost and quality. Choose carefully.

Step 5: Packaging

You're not just selling your product, you're selling a solution. Make sure your packaging is attractive and properly explains the purpose of your invention.

Step 6: Done.
