How To Give A Swedish Massage
To relax yourself and the muscles, try out Swedish massage. You have to be gentle when you massage yourself. There are a few techniques used in Swedish massage.
Hi. My name is Sunita Passi from Tri-dosha. We're specialist training providers in Ayurvedic massage, nutrition and meditation, and I'm looking forward to telling you about how to transform your life with a variety of different techniques.
Swedish massage is a traditional technique of massage that is used in the Western world particularly in Sweden and England to relax the body. It's a form of technique that originated many years ago and is one of the simplest forms of massage to learn and it's something that can be carried out in your home. It can be delivered by a specialist in a salon or a spa environment or a clinic, and there are also some specific techniques that you can try on friends and family or partners, and that's what I'm going to show you today.
Now one of the things about Swedish massage is because the benefits of it are really to relax the body, it's a good idea to perform the massage in a dark space, use candles if you want to. The room should be nice and warm and you should be able to play calming music in the background so that you really start to relax the body from a deeper level. I'm going to show you a few practical suggestions of Swedish massage techniques that you can use at home.
The first one I'm going to show you is a technique called Effleurage. Effleurage is a very, very simple technique which is used to actually warm the tissues up. This is something that's used primarily at the start of the massage to warm all of the tissues, warm the body which in essence allows the body to relax before you go into the deeper techniques that you would use in this treatment.
Effleurage simply is you take both of your hands together and you make a cup shape so you actually go up and then you come back down again. It's almost like a heart shape and you actually you just carry that out over the arm. So you're not going very deeply.
You're basically just gliding your hands over the arm over the flesh and coming down. You could also do this with oil if you want to use oil in the treatment. And again just sliding up slowly, come back down.
Slide up slowly, come back down. Slide up slowly, come back down. So this is great on arms on legs and it's particularly useful on back.
Another technique that you can use is a technique called vibration and this is where we actually start to release tensions in the muscles by using a much firmer technique. Now, here we would actually go from the top of the arm and bring both our thumbs into each other almost wringing the arms at the same time. So you get a very tight wringing working down the muscle and there's a little squeeze as your thumbs come into each other.
Okay. Then again up, squeeze it, up squeeze it, up squeeze it. Again with oil, this would allow for you to go deeper and again, finally squeeze.
And then one more technique I want to show you is actually something that shakes all of the energy or the stress out of the area. Here we take our arms from the top of your hands, top of the arm and we actually just shake the arm left and right. Slide back up, shake the arms left and right.
I'm going to leave you with those three techniques to try at home. I hope you enjoy. Thank you. .
