Hi, my name is Sunita Passi from tri-dosha. We're specialist training providers in Ayurvedic massage, nutrition, and meditation, and I'm looking forward to telling you about how to transform your life with a variety of different techniques. Ayurveda is an old Indian health system.
It really translates as knowledge of life, and people often refer to its priceless wisdom. Massage is one part of that knowledge of life, or that priceless wisdom, you could say, along with other healing techniques such as yoga or meditation, diet and nutrition, philosophy, and a cleansing program. Ayurvedic massage is actually an energy-based massage.
We're not working on muscles and tissues. We're working on specific energy centers that you find in the body. The whole intention of Ayurvedic massage is to move energy toward Prana.
If this remains blocked in certain areas, this controls certain health complications. So the more the energy is moving, the more the Prana is moving, the healthier and happy you will feel. Our intention through this massage is to move this energy.
The way that we do this is by working specifically on points of the body called Marma points. Marma points are located all over the body. You actually have 107 Marma points across the body, and on the back, we have some specific points.
We have a point here, under the scapula, under the shoulder blade. We also have points here, a third of the way down, but focusing in near the spine. We also have points here, above and below the waist.
What I'm going to do is just show you how to massage a few of these points, as this forms the basis for our Ayurvedic massage. If we just take a little bit of oil and massage that into the back, going up into the neck. The first thing we want to do is warm the back up.
A nice way to warm the back up is to simply take the palm of your hand and make some nice circle movements, going up and down the spine, three times, and that will heat the back up. Repeat it on the other side, three times. Then what we want to do is just come down, and I want to show you how to massage these points.
The best way to work your way down to the first point is to do some linking crosses, and then slide over to this first point just underneath the shoulder blade. You'll know where the points are. You'll feel them because there's a dip in the skin, in the joint.
This is where two junctures meet, and this is what constitutes a Marma point. We're massaging that Marma point if we just go over it five times, and press and hold for five. By doing this regularly, you start to allow the Prana to move.
The next points are here near the spine, a third of the way down the back. You'll feel a dip. Again, if you massage those points and press and hold.
Then, you have points at the waist. If you just massage above the waist. Again, your five circles. You'll push into that point.
Just pressing and holding releases more of the energy. As an energy type of treatment, it's also become the healing treatment. This type of treatment is very good for anybody who is going through anything emotional.
You also want to help with their physiology. There may be some things that require balancing there. It's also very good to find for the mind as well, because it is a very relaxing treatment.
Different pressures can be used during the treatment. For some people, deep pressure is good, and for other people light pressure is good. Any individual can benefit from an Ayurvedic massage.
I hope that's been useful for you, and I look forward to telling you about further massage techniques. Thank you.
