Today, I am going to show you how to grow radishes. Always follow the advice given on the seed packet. Radishes are a useful salad crops to grow in a short space of time.

After sowing radish seeds, they are ready to harvest in one to two months. Radishes are not fussy about the soil type but grow best on soil that has had plenty of manure or compost added. This is the site where I am going to grow the radishes.

The first thing I am going to do is add plenty of well-rotted manure onto the site. That gets nicely forked in and then, we try and level off the surface of where we are going to plant, like this. The trick with sowing radish seeds is to sow them little and often.

Sow them from early spring until late autumn, about every ten days. The spacing between seedlings and the space between rows are dependent upon the variety. You need to sow them about one to two centimetres in depth.

So, now, I am going to sow the radish seeds. I make a little drill which is like a tiny little trench, only about one or two centimetres in depth. I have put some seeds in my hand so you can see them.

So, I take the individual seeds and I plant them in the drill at the spacing as advised on the seed packet, like so. Radishes are quite good because you can put them into the drill individually because the seeds are big enough to handle individually. You, then, cover up the seeds with your hand fork like this and water them in.

Now, over here, you can see a row of radishes that I have sowed less than two weeks ago and they have already germinated and popped up through the soil. So, once the radish seeds have germinated and you have the young plants, keep the row free of weeds and within one to two months, the radish plants will be ready to harvest. So, that is how you grow radishes from seed. .
