Today I'm going to show you how to grow Rhododendrons. Rhododendrons are excellent shrubs but they're quite specific about their requirements. They need well-drained rich moist acidic soil or compost with a pH of between 4.
5 and 5.5. If you want to grow Rhododendrons in your garden, you need to, first of all, test the pH of the soil to check its acidity.
Rhododendrons like a low soil pH that's quite acidic so you use one of these kits to take a soil sample where you're thinking of growing a Rhododendron to check the pH. When planting Rhododendrons, don't plant them to deep. They like to have the roots quite near the surface.
When watering Rhododendrons, you need to also make sure that the pH of the water is acidic. Normal mains water is often alkaline so it's not suitable for watering Rhododendrons, therefore, you have to collect rainwater which is best for Rhododendrons. If you want healthy Rhododendrons, it's also a good idea to feed them once a month from April to September with a special ericaceous plant food.
You just add that to the watering can once per month. .
