to the tool saying this does not work needs to understand the mechanics of how a voltage is produced. A cell(your normal double a) produces 1.5 volts like all other cell batteries. To make a really battery these cells are put in series and viola a larger voltage like 12 v.

Great idea! To those who say this is fake, YOU ARE WRONG! The guy who posted before me is totally right. This all makes sense. The batteries just add up to 12V, and the only way to do that is to put them together like that. And to the guy who warned about battery acid, there is no leakage because the cells themselves are not punctured.

I just tried both the 12 and 9 Volt just to double check this as I was 99% sure it would... and now am 100% it is correct....(You might want to check the type of battery ... there are still some batteries out there that do in fact use acids and other chemicals to create this charge....although most brand named companies are doing the following....) hello, people, any battery smaller than a car battery is not 12 volts, otherwise, it would cause problems in your electronic devices. and as for the person who said you should read up before you comment, maybe you should do a little reading, because you obviously don't have a clue. i was an electrician in the navy, and i know this cannot work, although using 8 store bought button cell batteries this way would make 12 volts, again i say this could not be used in anything requiring this size battery. beyond that, even if it did work this way, this would be completely pointless, because you can buy a two brand new double A batteries for the same price as he paid for the one button cell battery...gosh, idiots.

I didn't know they made small 12 volt batteries. This is great, because I have a switch for a different project that requires 24 volts to activate! I am sure that this type of battery would work fine! (Two of them in series) So I guess the comment that it is useless unless it's a car battery is not true, eh? Before you all say it is fake, note the battery referenced in the video. It is a 'A23'. Not a AA or AAA or anything else. Look up what a A23 battery is in wikipedia, which states that it is an 8-cell battery... just like the video finds when it is opened up.

The problem with this idea is, you don't know what Amp/hour usage you'll get out of the small cells (batteries) I.e. they will work but only for a short while (that’s why the cells are packaged in a case called a battery) there are literally hundreds of types of batteries and cells that have completely different working capacities and power ratings that’s why you pay for a specific battery for a specific job, but Joe blogs doesn't realize this (me neither until I started working as an engineer)
