The video is mistaken about the best way to harvest chives: Using a sharp knife, or scissors, quicker and easier, is hard on the plant. When snipping live bits from any herb, pinch it with your fingernail, instead of cutting it cleanly...this pinches off the damaged area, leaving less exposed tissue, so the plant is less likely to be harmed by pathogens getting inside.
