How To Harvest Swiss Chard

If sown early, chard can be harvested from late spring all the way through to autumn. It's ready when the plant is about a foot and a half in height. Look for blemish free leaves with a good colour. Pull away the old leaves which may surround the base. Then use a knife to cut at the base of the leaf close to the ground, working from the outside in, discarding any yellowing leaves as you go. Leave the centre, which will regenerate allowing you to harvest again in a weeks time
Whenever possible, harvest vegetables during the cool part of the morning, and process or store them as soon as you can
