How To Have A Great Relationship With Your Daughter-In-Law

Counsellor Hillie Marshall talks VideoJug users through various tips and advice on making sure you form a great relationship with your daughter-in-law. Learn how to cope when your son brings a new woman into your life and home, and with VideoJug's help, form a great relationship with your new daughter-in-law.

Step 1:

The mother's approach

Don't try to compete with your daughter-in-law. Don't bargain for time with him, so back off a little. Treat her as a friend, not like you're her mother.

Don't look for faults and don't criticise her to your son. Try to look for her good points.

Step 2:

The father's approach

Treat her like another adult. Don't belittle your son in front of her and don't recount embarrassing anecdotes. Also don't mention his ex-girlfriends in front of her.

Step 3:

The ongoing relationship

This is your son's choice, you must respect his wishes. Be happy for him. Do your best to form a great relationship between you and you can then be there to help and advice them in the future.

I've done all these things, plus many more. I just feel she want me out of their life completely.
