When your daughter marries, you are not so much losing her as gaining a son, so learn how to make this relationship better and stronger with VideoJug's help. Using advice from Hillie Marshall, here are some great tips on how to have a great relationship with your son-in-law.

Step 1: The mother-in-law's approach

You probably want the perfect partner for your daughter, but no-one's perfect so don't be too judgemental. Bite your tongue.

Use the build up to the wedding to form a closer relationship with your son-in-law.

Step 2: The father-in-law's approach

You may have been dominated by female company for the last few years - so see him as an ally. Form a friendship with him, find some time with him and find some common interests.

Step 3: The ongoing relationship

You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your son-in-law. This is your daughter's choice, so accept it. Her happiness should be more important than anything else. Build a great relationship with him, then you may be aware of any problems that arise and you can be there as a support to both of them.

I haven't lost a daughter, I've gained a lazy, arrogant, selfish, horrible excuse for a man. It amazes me how I could have raised a daughter to be so subservant to such a loser and stand by while he takes his temper tantrums and jealousy out on a 3 year old boy. Get along with my son-in-law? I do, for the sake of my grandkids, but I look forward to the day he is no longer legally related to me.
