How To Host A Website

Hi, I'm Steve from PC Paramedics. From time to time, our clients ask us how they can host a website on their PC. Probably because they're designing a website and they like to upload it to their own PC to check how it functions.

For this, you need to install Internet Information Services or IIS in a Windows based machine. I'd like to show you now how to install IIS on a Microsoft Vista based laptop. Using our trusty laptop here, we're simply going to open up our control panel, using the start button and control panel.

And once control panel opens, we're going to go to the tab, programs and features. Double click on that and on our left hand menu, you see another menu there that says Turn off or on Windows features, we're going to click on that. After telling Vista we want it to continue, a new dialogue box will pop up and this may take some minutes to populate.

That was about fifteen seconds on this nice fast Acer, where it could be as much as a minute and a half depending on how modern and how fast your PC is. So we've now got a dialogue box which is showing us a number of Windows features and the one we're looking for is IIS. That ones located three down, Internet Information Services and we're simply going to tick the check box on the left hand side by left clicking in it.

And that's highlighted the two services that we wish to install, Web Management Tools and World Wide Web Services under the Internet Information Services heading. And now simply click OK and the PC will do its thing and install Internet Information Services. This again may take several minutes as the dialogue box is showing you.

This process as it says may take several minutes so, we've effectively completed the installation of Internet Information Services, it's now simply a case of sitting back, waiting for it to complete and then you're free to use Internet Information Services and upload your website to your PC. .
