How To Hurdle
Hurdling is very good exercise, and can be great fun! In this step by step guide Julia Hubbard, athlete and personal trainer, talks you through some great tips and techniques to help you get started at hurdling.
Top Tips
- The main difference between a hurdle start and a sprint start is that you have less room to drive, as you have to drive out quickly and get into an upright position before your first hurdle.
- To be a good hurdler you have to be able to get over the hurdles economically without reducing or changing your stride as you lead up to the hurdle.
- In a hurdles race you would ideally be looking to get three strides between the hurdles.
- In the longer races you may need more strides between hurdles as you get tired, so you should be able to lead and trail with both legs.
