Here's some basic advice about how to improve your running speed within endurance running from 8 1500 meter races up to marathon. I'm seeing it through somebody who's already doing some regular training through running and who is looking to maximize their speed and endurance. So, one of the things you should be doing would be some regular practices of running fast for short bursts but not short enough to start building up a high level of anaerobic fatigue.

So, there's something between eight and ten seconds to maybe twenty-five seconds concentrating on good form, close to your top middle distance speed and having a sensible recovery so you're fully recovered to run fast again, after maybe two or three minutes, and you should be doing those kinds of strides maybe once a week or so throughout much of the season. You also need to be sure that once you start running toward your maximal velocity that technically you are as well put together as you can. Because there are tons of things you need to focus on cursing through your body, you need to rely on everything down to relaxing your jaw, through holding your hips up high to the repetitive speed of your foot movements.

So, how quickly your feet move, how quickly they leave the ground, reducing your foot contact with the ground and a range of other things in between, your strength and your quads, your hamstrings, core strength, so there's the load of high impact spread throughout your body. You'll also be looking to isolate some of the technical movements of running, the range of running's sort of specific drills. This is what a lot of the runners won't spend time doing, but certainly in the long term, it's the sort of thing that will help your running speed.

It will probably reduce the risk of injury. But it's the kind of area where an external observer, typically a running coach, someone which knows what they are looking for who is able to explain to you what the tweaks in your farthest running movement might be and what sort of conditioning you might think about to improve that particular aspect of running at high speed to make it more sustainable for you. So those are the kinds of things to improve, to think about when you want to improve your running speed.
