Metabolism is the essential physiological process of life. Heartbeat, breathing, digestion, they're all part of metabolism. A high metabolism is key for healthy living. Find out how to raise your metabolism simply and easily.
Step 1: How It Works
There are two types of metabolism: Catabolism and Anabolism. Catabolism occurs when the body breaks down food as fuel. Anabolism occurs when that fuel is used to build and repair muscle and tissue.
Step 2: Bulk Up
The easiest way to boost your metabolism is to exercise with weights. You'll build muscle mass and raise your anabolic metabolism rate. It'll stay higher too, even the next day, as your body recovers. Aerobic exercise, like running, also raises your metabolism. But the boost won't last as long as the one you get from resistance training. It's important to include cardio exercises in every workout.
Step 3: Eat Small, Eat Often
Catabolic metabolism rises during digestion. So eat small meals throughout the day. Healthy snacks will keep your appetite under control, and your metabolism high and steady. Choose whole foods. Processed foods are already broken down and easier to digest. Make your body do the work, by eating whole grains, fruits and fiber.
