Hi there, I am Chris Duang from Aspect Maintenance, an electrical company based in the city of London. Today, we are going to have a quick look at installing a earth strap that you would then take a ten milliliter earth cable and that would be your main gas incoming meter bonded at the rest of your house. This is the component that we are going to use, which is just a piece of earth strap, see it is all that.

So once you have located the gas meter, you will see there are two pipes; this one coming in which will be the supply side which will have the supply valve turned off and this one will be the consumer side which feeds the house. You want to put your strap within six hundred millimeters of the consumer side so you get ahead of the knuckles so you get good continuity. So now we are going to place it on.

Just put the one end in the screw like that, do this, and then place the strap around the pipe pulling it through like that. Hand tight is fine. Then keep turning until you feel it lock on to the pipe.

You want to have a good connection but you do not want to tighten it too much or you will dent the pipe. You will feel it once it is locked in, just like that. That is a good connection.

You will take your protective earth cable to here and run it off back to your main distribution board. Turn this just a little bit to tighten it. And that would be how you would install an earth strap on a gas meter.
