How To Install Rigid Insulation

Hi, my name's Nick. I run a successful home maintenance company and I'm here to show you some DIY tricks. In this video I'm going to talk to you, show you how to install rigid insulation.

I've already shown you, in another one of my videos, how to install blanket insulation. This is an alternative, this typically would be installed at rafter or roof level. But you can use it between, within stud work.

The primary reason being is, this is almost a complete sound block. So if you were to put this in between a stud wall, again for the purpose of the studio, we've got bedroom on one side, bath on the other, if you were to install this into this stud wall it would make it almost impenetrable to sound.

This, again for studio purpose I just using a 50 mil board, this is Celatex product, the only disadvantage of using this kind of material is the cost.

So, very simply, all we're going to do is measure our studs and then mark it onto here. Just transfer the dimensions from our wall onto the product and then we're going to draw, again a good tip is to press quite firmly on the pencil which actually then creates an indentation onto the product. And again, full length of here and then very simply, with a saw.

Now that we've cut the rigid insulation to suit, it's just a case of slotting it into the studs. And again, gravity should do the trick, so we've got this installed like that and that's how you install rigid insulation.
