How To Install Tile

Kitchen fitting's easy. Well it is for me, I've been doing it for years. My name's Yves Way and today I'm going to give you some basic tips on kitchen fitting.

In this video I'm going to show you how to install tiles. There are two methods how you can apply the adhesive. One is to apply the adhesive straight to the wall and press your tiles onto it.

The other one is known as buttering the tiles, which is putting the adhesive onto the tile then putting it onto the wall. I'm going to start off by showing you how to apply the adhesive to the wall, and we'll put a couple tiles up like that. I'm using a notched trowel which as I pull this in place is giving me these grooves.

When I press the tile flat on the wall, the grooves will close up and give us a good coverage of adhesive on the back of the tile. I'm now going to press the tile gently into position. Continue as so with the next one.

We make sure our adhesive is going cover the complete area where the tile is going to sit. I'm going to use spaces to give us an equal line, which is where we're going to apply our grout to once it dries. We're now going to clear up any excess adhesive that might surround the tiles, to make cleaning up easier when dry.

The second method is to butter your tile. I'm going to use the same trowel and I'm going to apply the adhesive directly to the tile. I'm going to cover the tile completely and then drag it through with the notches on the trowel.

Give us the groove lines we saw early. I'm now going to apply the tile to the wall, in the same with way with a small amount of pressure to make sure the adhesive it got. Clean up the excess, and position my spaces to keep my consistent grout on.
