Deaf people may be the best sign teachers (people who really understand a topic often are...) But Manchester Council has a policy of ONLY using deaf teachers. This means there weren't enough teachers for all the people who wanted to go on and do BSL2, having pased BSL1. They prioritised on whether you had a deaf realtive or worked with deaf people. As I'm neither, I didn't get to do it. Shame! Fine, prioritise deaf teachers when it comes to the jobs. But I would have thought it was more useful to have lots of people able to communicate well in BSL than to stick so rigidly to a policy! I cam across this site when looking for resources to teach myself more - I love it!
