How To Jump A Bike
Are you ready to look like a BMX pro? Expert Gareth Wilson of Felt Bikes demonstrates how to do a jump on a BMX bike.
In this video you'll be learning how to jump on a BMX bike. Step 1, you're going to need enough speed to get on top of the ramp that you're attempting to jump onto the top of. Now, I do advise you to start on a smaller ramp, but just for this purpose we'll be using the ramp behind me.
So, get enough speed just to get onto the top of the ramp before you start to jump. Step 2, you've got the speed to go up the ramp, so as you go up the ramp feel the lip of the ramp so that's how steep the ramp is. Some are steeper than others.
Obviously the steeper they are the more speed you need to get up, but as you leave the ramp, you'll feel the ramp kick you so at this point, referring to the bunny hop if you
look at the video. It's like the bunny hop, but the ramp's doing a lot of the pulling up for you so as you have the speed to go up the ramp, the ramp sort of kicks you up so that's doing the pulling up, and all you have to do is push forward just to level the bike out in the air. Step 3, you're airborne now; you're in the air, so you're going to have time just to adjust slightly.
You've straightened out in the air, you're going to get ready for the landing so you could be 2 ft. or 6 ft. in the air, so the higher you are, the more you've got to absorb the landing, so again using your legs as springs and also your arms as you land compress fully down
remember where your limit is; you don't want to be coming down onto the bars.
Just get used to compressing down on the landing and obviously the more you do it, the softer and smoother you'll be on the landing. And that's how to do a jump on a BMX bike.
