In this video, I'm going to talk to you about how to jump higher and if you are a volleyball player, a basketball player for example, jumping high is really important to your game. You probably already know about plyometrics which are bounding exercises to help you get more height. What I'm going to show you is a more recent theory called complex training.

Complex training is when you mix strength training then you do a plyometrics exercise straight afterwards. So, what I'm going to show you is a squat followed by a squat thrust. What this does is develops more power in your lower body, also a little bit in your abs, and that will be replicated in the field and you'll be able to jump higher.

Okay, so first of all, a squat. Now, you would normally do this with a very heavy weight, maybe so you can only do five or six times, slowly going down, slowly up. This is working all the lower body muscles.

Then, straight away, doing some squat thrusts straight afterwards, this is a far superior way of getting more height in your jumps. Complex training is very advanced. If you are a beginner, you shouldn't really do more than two hundred reps per week.

If you are more advanced, maybe two hundred reps per session, three sessions per week, otherwise it is too much strain on your body. Another thing to consider is when you are doing any kind of jumping is to land quietly, you don't want to have any kind of loud noise when you are landing because that means that shock and forces are being pushed up towards your knee and your hips. So always remember quiet landing.

Another thing to remember is if you are jumping particularly for a sport, the best kind of jumping you can do is doing that actual sport, so by doing spikes in volleyball or dunks in basketball, that is more sports-specific than just doing stuff in the gym. And there are some things to remember when training to jump higher. .
