How To Jump Start Your Car

Jump starting your car's battery is made easy with VideoJug's great guide on how to jump start your car when its battery dies.

Step 1: You will need

jumper cables
another car
safety glasses
rubber gloves
wire brush

Step 2: Set up

Lift hood and find battery, check your owner's manual for exact location in your vehicle.

Step 3: Safety first

Step 4: Positive ID

Your battery has two terminals, a positive and a negative. Positive is marked with "+

Step 5: A friend in need

Find a friend or good samaritan to help. This will not hurt their vehicle.

Step 6: Power hungry

Have other car pull close to your car, so cables can reach batteries. Turn off both cars. Open hood and locate battery of car that will do the jumping.

Step 7: Hook me up

Attach one end of the jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead car and the other end to the positive terminal of the car that will do the jumping. Then attach th e other clip to the negative end of the car donating the juice. And attach the other end of the engine block of the dead car.

Step 8: The juice is loose

Start the car that is giving the jump.
*Never run a car in a closed space or sealed garage. *
Wait a few minutes, then start the car with the dead battery. If it doesn't work ,leave the jumper car running. Wait five miinutes, then try again.
If it doesn't work, you may have a more serious problem and could need a tow.

Once your car is running, don't turn the car off, as it needs time to recharge the dead battery.

Step 9: On your own

Remove the cables in the reverse order than you attached them.
Remove cable on the engine block, then the negative on the donor car.
Removed the positive from the dead car, then remove the positive from the donor car.
