Basically, the reason the yarn is getting too tight against the needle is because the yarn is getting pulled away from the needle you are knitting from (the one in your left hand) and so tightening the loop around the needle. To solve this just don't pull too hard on the yarn and try to keep the two needles fairly close to each other.

This may be an easy to follow video, however, this lady is definately not an expert knitter. She is holding her needles and yarn incorrectly and allowing one of her needles to 'waggle' in mid air whenever she has to wrap the yarn around it! If you are going to learn how to do something it's best to learn how to do it properly from the beginning.
