Wind Window - The is the section of wind which is strongest. It is where your kite will be positioned most of the time when you fly.
-
Step 1:
-
Flying the Kite
-
Firstly you'll need to be really confident flying your kite. Try a couple of trips out where you just concentrate on flying your kite and getting used to handling it and breaking it. Only when you feel completely in control of your kite can you start to try boarding.
-
Step 2:
-
Walking the Kite
-
Bring the kite to the edge of the wind window, at around 11 o'clock for travelling left and 1 o'clock for travelling right. Move the kite in a figure of 8 pattern and start walking in a diagonal line when you feel the wind pull.
-
Step 3:
-
Balancing on your Board
-
Practice jumping into and out of the foot straps, and make sure the bindings are pulled tight enough to hold your feet but not too tight so you can't jump out if you get into trouble. Once on the body move your body to get used to balancing on the wheels.
-
Step 4:
-
Flying on the Board
-
Keeping the board still practice getting used to being on the board whilst flying. Try a release with your kite killers while still on the board as well so you will prepared for this when you start moving.
-
Step 5:
-
Put it all Together
-
Start off slowly, with small movements of your kite. You'll find one direction much more comfortable so keep trying this way until your confidence grows. If you can't get moving, alter the angle of the board slightly.
-
Step 6:
-
Changing direction & stopping
-
To change direction you'll need to bring the kite above your head to slow you down. You can do this by pulling back on the handles. This technique will also stop you. You can then bring the kite across and start moving in the other direction. TOP TIP: To 'steer' whilst travelling you can put pressure on your toes or heels depending on which way you want to go.
