How To: Laryngitis Treatment

The larynx can be infected by viral infections such as the common cold. Here are a few steps you can take to manage laryngitis at home.

This is how to manage laryngitis. I'm mainly concerned with simple viral infective laryngitis. The larynx is, of course, the voice box, which is situated between the lower end of the throat and the upper end of the bronchi, the main tubes going down to the lungs.

The lining of the larynx or membrane of the larynx can be infected by viral infections and is often associated with the common cold. The voice can become a little hoarse, there might be some difficulty in speaking, and one feels a general congestion in that area. What can we do about it? Well, basically, it's a question of resting the voice.

Secondly, if you're a smoker, that has to stop because cigarette smoke is a great irritant to the larynx in any case. Then, soothers are recommended. These can be anything from gargles with disinfectant, lozenges and hot drinks with honey and lemon.

All these will actually soothe the tissues until nature heals the condition, which is usually in a few days. One's voice comes back, and the grittiness goes. However, if laryngitis is persistent for more than two weeks, one must think of the possibility of other causes than a viral infection, and it should be reported to your doctor who may look at other possibilities.

That is how to manage laryngitis. .
