How To Launch A Flexifoil Kite

Hello, I'm Thomas from the Kitesurf Centre. Today, I'm just going to show you a couple of tips on how to fly a kite and how to get into these brilliant sports of kite flying. I'm now going to show you how to launch a flexifoil kite.

So first, we're just going to run through how we layer it onto the floor to allow to launch with really nice control. So what we're going to do, we're going to put some weight along the trailing edge to the back of the kite. So, we've got the leading edge at the front here, we have the air vents, we're going to put that in the either side.

So a bit of weight, so you can put stones if you're on a stony section of the beach or we could put a bit of sand if you're on a sandy section of the beach. So put that along and that means the wind catches the kite through on backwards, it's going to lift up forward like this really really nicely and we're going to have a nice controlled launch and stuff and then get in this angle. So now, I'm going to go down to the handles and get the kite into the air.

So I've got two of the handles, laid the kite out really nicely, now I'm going to get it to the air. So, I will hold handles like this so the front lines are running through my index finger and middle finger. I'm just going to walk back gently now, the kite's gong to start to fill up with air and you're going to feel a little bit of tension on the lines, it's basically wanting to fly.

Just keep walking back and then give it a little tug, and that's going to allow all those stones to fall off the trailing edge and the kite will fly up nicely to 12 o'clock. We've got a really nice safe launch there, the kite's in the air, and we can start flying our kite. So that's how we launch a flexifoil kite.
