Hi, my name is John Webb. I've been a badminton coach for over fifteen years, and I'm going to show you some tips on how to play badminton. Hi, I'm going to introduce you to the rules of badminton, which is really important when you start playing with a friend and start getting to the game.

So the first important rule is the game of badminton goes up to 21 points and the match consists of the best of 3 games. You would start serving on the right hand side of the court, and you would be serving diagonally to the opponent and you start at 0. You start the game by flipping the coin or tossing the racket to decide who starts to serve.

You win a point or you win a rally when the opponent either fails to receive the serve, it gets hit out by the boundary lines, hits the floor, or gets hit into the net, or you play a double hit – its different reason, but you get to win a point. Once you win a point, you move to the opposite side of the court. So, whenever you are serving, the odd points are always on the left, and the evens on the right.

After that, if the score ever gets to 20 or your set, and you will be set, so you are two points clear. In badminton, there are different ways you can actually win a point, there are ten different ways you can win a point. Start with, if the opponent fails to serve and it goes over the net, or if you fail to return the serve.

The other couple of ways is if you hit it out of the boundary lines, or if the shuttle actually hits the floor before you can return it, that is another way to win a point. Different ways is if you scoop or double hit with a racket, or if the racket goes over the net, or you actually touch the net, you would also lose the point. The game lasts up to 21 points, and badminton is played in the singles court and the doubles court.

The singles court is a long and thin court right to the back boundary line with the side travelling lines out. The doubles court is the whole court of the serve, including the boundary lines. That's basically the explanation of the rules of badminton. .
