Martial Arts Guru Laurence Sandum gives tips on learning Kung Fu, including how to find the right class, and demonstrates different Kung Fu moves.
How to learn Kung Fu. First of all, you need to find yourself a good instructor and most importantly, also, is an instructor that you enjoy training with. I would advise to go and watch a class, take a free introductory class, chat with some of the members after the class to see that they're enjoying the class.
The most important thing for all martial arts, I think, is that you're enjoying the class. Once you've found yourself a good instructor, then you'll be ready to learn some of the basic Kung Fu moves which I'll now demonstrate a few basics. One of the common strikes is the Bil Jee finger poke.
This can be to the throat or to the eyes, so this could be to Graham's throat, it could be also to Graham's eyes. You need to practice this to start off with on a soft bag or something soft, not really hard bags so that you don't damage your fingers. Different ways of attacking with your fingers, if you find that you have got strong fingers after building up slowly on a bag and harder bag, you can poke like this.
You can also Bil Jee with your three fingers together like this, and also with your three fingers together like this. The Kung Fu punches or the Chung Choi punches differ from the Western boxing punches, which you can think of some of the straight punches as coming in more along a triangular line like this for the jabs and the crosses, whereas the straight punches are more like Choi punches, coming over the top. The Bil Jees, the finger pokes, come underneath.
These can be to the throat or these can be to the eyes. And that's a brief guide on how to learn Kung Fu and a basic Kung Fu straight punch and a basic Kung Fu finger or eye poke. .
