Bryce Campbell shows us his knowledege and expertise in choosing the right longboard. Bryce shows us the correct location and technique for longboarding.
Hello I am Bryce Campbell, sponsored skateboarder, and I am here to talk to you guys about longboarding. Generally used for downhill but it can be slight slalom, to sliding, to different types of longboarding, but is very similar to skateboarding. It's less technical.
It's more about speed, about precision with turning and a bit of balance. It also takes a lot of confidence because you are reaching higher speeds. Yeah, it's about finding a nice hill, a big open space in a park, or even just a slight gradient down your street would be sufficient for learning how to longboard.
So if we look at the longboards. Again, very very varied in the types of longboards. You've got things like this which are a sector nine skateboard.
It's got high tracks. It is quite a short longboard in terms of longboards but works well for the process. This one would be used for very very long long turns like that.
Lots and lots of movement in the track so you can see. It's got double kingpin so that will allow you to turn that way and vice versa quite easily. Once you have chosen your longboard, you're ready to go.
So, finding yourself a hill, a flat space somewhere. Laying your board down, one foot on the front, in a hopping motion you're stepping on. Now, with longboarding it's all about the movement.
It's all about in and out. Now, you're not confined to having to have a wide stance. At higher speeds you would want a wide stance but at slower speeds you can do a form of longboarding which is called dancing, where you walk around the board while it is moving.
Some people get right up on the tip, hold the front up, all the way down the back, crossing over. This is all longboarding that generally would be done at lower speeds, but can be done at higher speeds. Now as you are see the board will move right down the way there.
This will allow you to hold the board and stop any speed while it moves at higher speeds. Really fast, really wide, lots of room on the board to move around. Now it's always important to stay close to the ground because that way the lower you are to the ground the better your balance is.
If you are standing up to high it's going to make it all a bit more harder. And that is how you longboard.
