How To Maintain Highlights

Do you want to keep the terrific highlights you paid a fortune for in the salon? Here are some tips and pointers on what to do and what not to do to keep your highlights looking fresh.

The best way to maintain highlights is to have good conditioned hair. Obviously, you've gone to a professional salon to have these highlights done and you want to maintain them for as long as you can. If it's good conditioned hair, all the hair cuticles are closed.

When the hair cuticles are closed, it's locking in the color. When the cuticles are open on the ends where it's been damaged through straightening or sun or chemicals, then the color's not holding on the ends, so what you need to do is make sure you have good treatments regularly. Salon treatments are always the best, and then after, using a color saver shampoo and conditioner to maintain that, hold off on your straightening.

Use a heat protector, if you are going to straighten the hair. The best advice to maintain the highlights is not to over-process the hair. If you're going to have bleach highlighted hair, always do the roots and not the ends over and over again because that's where you're going to get damage.

Keep your blonds looking the blond you had in the salon. Make sure you use a proper color shampoo, which has color pigments in the shampoo to maintain, and another way to maintain highlights of your hair, you can always go into the salon and have a toner. This will just take any yellow tones or actually put warmer tones back in if it's warmer tones you're looking for.

This is a semi-permanent color which tones the highlights and that will last you around three or four weeks. Those are my tips on maintaining highlights. .
