This can happen just from the light reflected off an object. With lasers as powerful as this video demonstrates, you can burn your retina before you can blink! Safety Tips: 1. Read the warning label on the DVD / CD Writer to tell you what class laser you are using. 2. Wear protective eye wear. Not just regular sunglasses but really dark gas or arc welding goggles. 3. That's amazingly dangerous. Last time I checked most laser diodes from CD/DVD burners were outside the visible spectrum, not red... ...but that doesn't mean they won't burn things. Shouldn't you put an IR filter on that thing?

Stop being retards scared of life. This is almost harmless..only way you could get hurt by it would be shining it in someones eyes. It wont cut skin and would have to be held still in one spot to cause any sort of burns. Its rather weak. Just google the stuff is dirt cheap to get (less then $30)

The danger of lasers isn't that the person using them isn't careful but in the fact that they reflect of shiny surfaces! So whilst you might not POINT it at your/someone's eye, it could still end up in there. You should always use laser googles when playing with lasers that can cause eye damage. If you get hit in the eye with some lasers, you feel a pop, the eye fills up with blood and you're blind. Probably not painful but I value my eyesight. Somethings are dangerous but with the correct protection, risks can be minimized - wear laser goggles (they're quite funky looking)!

The wall doesn't light because the WALL IS WHITE. For those who don't know extremely basic physics, the light energy from the laser is converted to heat when it is absorbed by dark objects. However if an object is white, this means it reflects most of the light back.
