How To Make A Christmas Stocking
Make A Christmas Stocking. Arona Khan, our arts and crafts specialist, shows how to make that Christmas stocking for the kids.
Step 1: You will need
- Card
- A pencil
- Scissors
- A large piece of felt
- A piece of chalk
- Pins
- Silk embroidery thread
- Needle
- Pinking shears
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or cord
- Christmas confetti
- glue
Step 2: Make the template
Draw the shape of stocking on a piece of card and cut it out to make a template. You can make it as big or small as you like and even make mini stockings to hang on the tree.
Step 3: Draw on the felt
Fold felt in half or use two separate pieces. Then place the template on the felt and draw around it in chalk.
Step 4: Pin the felt
Use a couple of pins to pin the two pieces of felt together.
Step 5: Sew together
Sew around the outline of the stocking with embroidery thread. Make the first stitch at the top corner a double stitch to ensure it is really strong. Then continue sewing around the outline using a simple running stitch.
Remember not the sew both sides of material together at the top of the stocking. Sew along the top on either side for a neat finish.
Step 6: Trim
Trim the material with pinking shears about 1 cm away from the stitching.
Step 7: Make a hole
Punch a hole in the corner at the top of the stocking.
Step 8: Loop the cord
Cut a length of cord and tie a knot in one end. Trim off the excess. Thread the other end through the hole in the stocking and tie it in a knot. Then tie both ends together to make a loop.
Step 9: Decorate
Decorate the stocking by gluing pieces of gold confetti in places all over the front of the stocking.
